Wet season!

Well, this wet season certainly feels a lot wetter than last year. I don't know how it actually is, I haven't looked up the numbers. I think the difference for me is that this year I am into GeoCaching, and the rain is stopping me from going out. Actually, the rain isn't stopping me from going out - up here the rain is warm and more of an annoyance rather than cold and miserable like it is down on the south side of the country. No, it's wanting to make sure no water gets into the caches that is stopping me. Would be mighty rude to open one up and it gets a heap of water in it!

I can't remember how much I noticed the rains last year. I don't recall any times where I was looking out the window wanting to go out. Possibly was too busy with my head in my phone rather than paying attention to what else was going on around me. Or maybe it rained less? Let's go with that.

Lightning!

Early this morning we had a lightning strike pretty close to our place. I happened to be awake at the time (storm in progress), and the flash of light and wall of sound arrived pretty much at the same time.

Two air con units dead, so they'll need to get repaired or replaced. Luckily no damage to the internals or the electrics.

Perth!

Feeling good to have a chance to get back to my old stomping grounds. Not feeling so good to be in the cold again. Brrr!

First cyclone

Well, after a few years of living in the Top End, we've experienced our first cyclone. At the risk of tempting fate, I have to say it wasn't too bad where we were.

There was a lot more trees uprooted in closer to the city, we saw lots of trees down, a few power lines and such.

Apparently we have another, stronger cyclone on the way in another week or so. Fingers crossed it is as easy on us as this one was...

Integrating

Well, it's been about three weeks that I've been here at Darwin and things are going well so far.

The weather has been pretty decent, but I need to keep in mind that we got here at the best time of year, right at the height of tourist season. Most days are a carbon copy of each other and it's hot but not too hot.

As the year grinds on, it'll be getting hotter and hotter, and the humidity will climb to pretty much 100% most of the summer (which is the wet season). And apparently, once it starts raining, it keeps raining. Hard and heavy. Good thing I don't ride a motorbike!
